Waterbed Thermostat for Chick *Bator* ?

I had thought about the idea of using the heater and thermostat for an incubator...not sure of the stability of it though. On the other hand though I think it would make a great indoor brooder heater. I use a heating pad now since it has three heat settings and the chicks have total control over their temp preference. I use a small florescent clip on lamp for their lighting and energy consumption is less than half that that would be needed for a brooder lamp and not nearly as likely to be a fire hazard since neither item is over 50 watts.
The water bed heater might also make a good outdoor brooder/coop heater since it is mostly waterproof. Just my opinion.

A water bed thermostat should work but the heater will burn its self up if it don't have the water whicking the heat away. I have fried more than one running it "dry."

Personally I like central heat thermostats. They work great. There made to be sensitive to are temperature changes
