watere nipples leaking

Quote:
Some of the new nipples I ordered from Farmtek seem to be leaking as well...just a bit, but it makes the floor wet. Had one leaking a fair stream, good thing I happened to check on it. A bit chagrined, I am. I had thought it was just a cheap eBay nipple problem. It's knocked my confidence in these things down for indoor applications.

I need to figure some sort of drip recovery system or else switch to something more reliable.

How do you keep the cup waterers from freezing up

I haven't solved that issue yet as we don't get many hard freezes in my area. Had one a few weeks ago and I re-deployed the 5 gallon bucket with the nipples in the coop until the cups thawed out later in the day. I'm thinking any system using tubing will be prone to freezing as it would be difficult to keep it heated. I do see in BellevueOmlet's picture that they are using some sort of pipe insulation so perhaps that may help.

I looked at the cups but we have severe winters and freezing is a real issue. I put three nipples in a 5 gallon bucket and then added a heating element for wintertime use.

I have a heated bucket with the cups connected directly.
This is not a good pic. I'll take another one that shows the heating element and everything.
I switch out my normal cups in the winter for this heated bucket style.

I bought some of the lubing..german made for commerical poultry houses..they are around $5.00 new...i got mine from a man who quit raising broilers..i would be happy to sell you 6 for $15.00 including postage...if they dont stop your leak problems send them back to me and i will refund your money...i put some of them in a 5 gal bucket like you are talking about and i use some in the commercial square pvc pipe they come in...you would have to heat trace the pipe if you used it that way in winter...one thing is how many birds per nipple do you have?? if you have too few birds that will cause them not to be used and can make them drip..they need use to keep them sealed right..hope you get it worked out but pm me if you are interested in some replacements...
