Waterers!

In the winter i hang one heat (brooder) lamp in the coop and keep the water in the area below it.
I never had any freezing water last winter. My coop is divided and both sides were kept from freezing.

Slightly more complicated, but we used the nipple style waterers from www.cconly.com and abs drain pipe. It consists of (2) 2 and a half feet sections 4 inch of vertical pipe paralell to one another. Those are then reduced to 2 inches and turn 90 degrees towards the center, the nipples are attached to a 2 foot section of 2 inch pipe. So the whole system makes a U shape. The vertical sections of pipe are capped but not glued, this is where it is filled, the rest of the system is glued. The beauty of the nipple waterers is that you can create any shape or size container you want and it will always provide fresh, clean water. I may eventually hook mine up to a water hose to have a constant supply but for now its fine the way it is. As far as leak proofing your system, if you use the screw in nipples for www.cconly.com, you have to use an 11/32 drill bit for the holes, any larger or smaller and they will leak. Also use teflon tape around the threads when installing them, with this method ive had no leaks. Some people are concerned that their hens wont figure out how to use the nipples, but my were doing great in less than a day, just be sure that this is their only water source when introducing them.

Here is a link to my system and my chickens using it.

What are some suggestions on a good hanging waterer or any other waterer that' works well? We are finishing our coop and I need to purchase some items to complete their home. Super excited but feel there's a million things to keep in mind when doing a coop.

I just got a 3 gal hanging (or not I guess) from TSC. It is plastic so I can put the apple cider vinegar in it. It is nice and heavy. No problems with it so far (about a month). It has a little cap too in case you have to fill and carry to coop like I do. It has a black screw on lid, red bottom and white main part. It was about $30
