Soon I will be a new goose mama. I will be one on one with the goose 24/7. It will go everywhere with me. It will never be alone at all. I have been reading all the goose post and read the house goose thread and the care for goslings thread. I am ordering Duck! There's a Goose in the House as well. As I am reading, I am seeing lots of people saying to get chick feed, though it doesn't have a lot of niacin.
1.I was wondering if mazuri waterfowl starter would have more niacin than chick feed. Also, I will be creating a..I think it's called a fodder system setup where I grow my own grass for her as well as take her grazing for hours everyday. I just want to grow my own because I don't trust any other grass
. 2.I also have looked at different sites for buying harnesses and I believe one of them had a set for gosling harness for up to four weeks. Would that work?
3.One more question. I plan on taking the goosey goose everywhere and sometimes maybe a park. Would that be okay to do?

Thank you!

I would just give her NON medicated chick starter 20% Protein and add a table spoon of brewers yeast to her feeder. Brewer's yeast will give her all the Riboflavin she needs. The harness should work.Im sure the goose would be fine with you just have water available.

@masterofclucker When you say feeder, that means in her water or the food bowl? Thank you!

We feed nutrena all flock and add - nutritional yeast 1 tablespoon per cup of feed is how much they need
I havent looked at mazuri since we dont have it around here, but yes if its formulates specifically for waterfowl it should have the proper amounts in it.
What kind of goose are you getting?
Is it going to live in the house?

@Ducks4us I am getting an Amer. Buff. Yes she will live indoors but will go out everyday for hours. And I'm going to making a fodder system for grass inside. It will be just me and her. Like I said wherever I go, she'll be going bad well. I'm making her an ESA. Already have the papers ready. And I'll be doing diapers as well.

Wow , interesting. I have never seen a buff in real life but i have seen lots of pictures and they are sure pretty!
If they werent quite so large i would prob have a couple!
Where are you getting her from? Just curious since i know you cant only order a single bird from hatcheries?
Do you have a breeder near you?

@Ducks4us I live in California. So I can either go to Metzer and pick up the one gosling or to another hatchery that sells over 200 birds. It seems that Metzer is the choice though. I have only been around the wild geese, but I am excited about getting her. I believe if you go and pick her up, you can just get one.

that would be great to be close enough to go their farm!
these are my first geese, its crazy how smart they are. and how quickly they form a bond with their people. i have 2 white chinese... they follow me everywhere like puppies! they are amazing, and so fun.

@Ducks4us I would love to see photos of them! So Metzer just emailed back, that in order to have 1 gosling, I would have to have a straight run, so they won't be sexed. So instead of Buff, I will just go with pilgrim. I want a girl because I want to use the eggs for cooking and such and also, I want a little princess baby. I love the white chinese, they look like dinosaurs and sound like them, but too loud for where I will be living. What are there names?
