Waterfowl Pics and Chat!

I posted these in the breed specific thread for geese, but thought I would put them here for everyone. I took these photos of my production Toulouse and Pomeranians this morning.

Ozzie and Harriet.

Ozzie...he is 8 months old.

Harriet, also 8 months old. She is standing in front of John and Jean, my original pair of Buff Saddleback Pomeranians.

Caboose (one of my spring hatches) and Wonky (spring hatch from eggs I got from Kawonu). I mated them up for this season. She has an excellent body shape and he has pink bill, shanks, and feet. Neither have excellent markings, but Caboose isn't too bad.

Some of the gang at the front pond and house. You can see our other duck/goose house in the distance. That pasture and pond is still closed due to bobcats. Grr....

Wandering through our live oaks.

Preparing for attempted take off: Fail.

Another group shot of some of my flock...

Wow, my goats were never that naugty several years ago, but they didin't live with poultry, they lived with my horse. Oh well, I've got plent of room left, so I'll avoid that drama I think.

living with horses is totally different from poultry. Horses are fed up higher (normally -- at least I always have feed up off the ground) where geese and ducks have feed pans on the ground. Our youngest Nigerian girl even figured out the auto pop door on the coop and how to jump into/through it to raid the feeder in there. Cute little boogers, gotta look at the world like you are prepping for a 2 year old human and everything they could get into.

We never kept any feed near the horses except hay. Everyone went into the barn for graining, and there was no way to the grain except up the ladder to the loft, and then back down the center aisle. It was a barn built 1900 (where I was raised) and they planed for goats I guess.

I did read they did well togather, but clearly they didn't mean they worked out for feeding time. I've never seen them kept togather anywhere, except online. No worries.

Miss Lydia - do you feel more comfy with helping me with my project now that you know it should be fairly simple? Your such a duck fan, I could really use you.

Both our goats and our horse are TERRIBLE with the duck/goose/chicken feed. If they can reach it, they will eat it. Our horse even kneels to get her head under the roof on our duck houses feeder area, which is right beside a plush green pasture field.
Luckily none of my goats have bothered the ducks or chickens in their pasture. The geese have gone in one or two times without incident, but that is far from saying the goats will play nice. So far, the only thing that makes any of them really mean (my female Spanish is nasty) is dogs or strange people. That fat old girl puts a serious hurting on anything canine. Our poor golden retrievers got in there one day and we had to rescue them from her: Strangely my mini-Nubian and Myatonic mix boys are no issue....just the cranky old lady goat.

Love the pics 1..

Very interesting, Lydia!! Did you know that they were pets to the ancient Greeks? Aphrodite had a pet goose and the main heroine in Homer's Odyssey kept a flock of pet geese.
