Oh, love the new pics!!!

It looks like I'm going to have to go out and take some pics tomarrow..... I'm feeling like I'm letting everyone down. (not really - ya'll know I love ya)

Baby and Lucky are coming along slowly. They are cuddle buddies in the barn.

I just love the duck with the "hairdo"!!

What kind of duck is it? It looks like it could be a runner, but I've never seen one with the "do"....so cute!!

Thanks,

Its a crested duck. This is sometimes bred for, but usually it just pops up. Sadly, deliberate breeding requires great care, as the gene is linked also to mental issues and sudden death. When its a fluke, its ok, but if you breed crested to crested, 75% of the offspring can die before maturity.

They are very cute though, aren't they? I had an ancona with an accidental crest (it just happens sometimes) but it was killed by dogs. I loved her little bitty poof - the pic of this one is much fuller and attractive then mine was.

Marty nice to hear Baby and Lucky are still making progress. Nice pictures Elsefield.........do you have any geese? (since we are on the goose area)

Mart I dont remember seeing your crested duck, sorry she was one of the victims of the dog attack.

crests here are a cull as they dont fit the standard for any of the breeds we have.

My crested was one of Julias pets, a little ancona girl. She had a tiny little crest, it looked like she had stuck feathers in the back of her head to look like a Native American duck. LOL I do not condone the breeding of crested ducks, as I object to deliberately creating a death gene. (I like them, and think they are cute though, and make good pets.)
