Waterfowl Pics and Chat!

Help its winter and my geese are losing weight so fast. They don't have any grass to eat. My geese are picky all they want is grass. They won't eat the food we feed the rest of my waterfowl. Or the grass hay we feed our horses. Any ideas on what they might like? Thanks! :D

If they're losing a lot of weight, you can offer them some cracked corn - not a lot! Too much is bad. These threads might also give you some ideas:

^ that last one isnt winter related, but still deals with alternatives to grass. Hope this helps!

After being overcast all day today... finally raining as I type..

Are you able to sprout anything for them?

They are eating a little bit of scratch. No sprouts they wouldn't eat them anyway lol. They are eating some dead grass and I'm feeding them flock raiser and waterfowl food. Thanks!

Try whole grains with them, whole wheat and whole oats are favorites around here as well as BOSS along with your waterfowl feed and FR. Also shop around for hay and see if you can find good soft deep green leafy hay. Avoid alfalfa geese tend to not like it. Oat hay, Peanut hay, Timothy are all good to look for. Some areas have local grass hay, just be sure to look at it and avoid hay that is stalky.

How is everyone else doing this morning?

Marty how are the new goats doing?

Will check back in later, today is retest day for us here and with the large number of dewlaps that need done (on top of everyone else we have) we will be busy.

AZ, also dont give up after offering the new items only once or twice. Geese dont take to change quickly and you may spend a week or more adapting to new feeds and getting them to accept something. Some will jump right in, but it isnt abnormal to have an adjustment period.

Here is a picture of our ganders. Frankie is the white one. He is asking when spring will come. Johnie is the one behind him next to the feeder. He is busy talking to Major Medical( his little ducky girlfriend). We had to put our 2 female ducks in a separate pen because we have 6 male ducks and they were getting a little too much attention. He just sticks his head through the opening and honks at her. She stands next to the doorway and quacks to him. They are so cute. We do have 2 female geese but Johnnie does not pay much attention to them.
