I have to be honest here there is always going to be some water that they do not catch. Poultry cannot gulp water as we do they have to catch it in their beak and hold their head up. The advantage with horizontal would be the spring load and rubber seat it shuts off and seals the instant they stop pecking. The others depend on a weight and no rubber so there is a delay in closing. The horizontals have a small cup that catches most of the excess but as you know they are messy. I cant think of any way to eliminate ALL spills but these have lots less. Any one that claims to eliminate all spills I think is kidding you. The advantage to them over cups or dish type is the issue of cleaning. Horizontals can be mounted flush to a wall so the birds can't perch over them. There is no place for trash they kick up to get into. I can only tell you that every one that has gotten them through me has been pleased with them. I have a very poor picture of my coop that was taken about a year after I installed mine. You can see in it that it is dry under them. I can post it if you want me to but the quality is very very poor.I am not happy with my nipple waterers I am using for my quail.. They are not leaking, however when the quail hit the nipple I am sure more comes out than they drink. I have it on gravity system in a 1 gallon bucket about 6" above the pen.
I was thinking of going to cups, but not really wanting to go there.
What would be my advantage of going to the horizontal nipple Rich386?
Thanks in advance...
Thanks Rich
