Watermelon rinds

Do chickens like watermelon Rinds? We had watermelon for dinner and I have a bunch of rinds and end pieces left. I want to give it to my girls, but not sure what is safe to give them.
Thx
My chickens LOVE watermelon. I will toss them the rinds and they will strip them clean. They won't eat the green outside rind but will eat any watermelon and the white part that is left on it.

When I had my in-town chickens I was working at a fruit stand. They loved the over-age watermelons -- you know how an old watermelon gets mealy.

I'd lop off any bruised areas (out of concern about possible mold), then throw it in forcibly so it would crack open. Within a couple days any remaining shells would be in the process of becoming one with the deep litter.

I'm still learning about posting replies...tried to answer your question about whether watermelon is safe and the reply ended up on a different thread.. please be careful with watermelon. I had the same question after 3 of my hens nearly died. I've been doing a lot of reading and several people have had hens die unexpectedly or get diarrhea after giving them watermelon. I'm convinced the leftovers from my bumper crop of homegrown organic watermelon nearly killed my three. Also, the rest of my 15 hens stopped laying more than 1-2 eggs total per day, less than a dozen eggs a week... but, I blame myself for giving them too much of a good thing, and I keep hoping they will start laying again.
