We just bought a co-op from Lowe's and I want to waterproof the outside. I already have a quart of Rust-Oleum painter's touch ultra cover premium latex paint clear gloss. It says it is for indoor/outdoor. I wasn't going to paint the inside with it. Anyone heard that this is not safe? I'd let it sit for 2-3 days before putting the chickens in it. The roof of this coop looks like it will rot quickly. I think we have some plastic dip spray I was going to use on that. Anyone have opinions on either product?

Latex isn't great for moisture-prone areas (latex can peel). Personally, I'd go with acrylic exterior paint. It should be perfectly safe for the chickens after 48 hours, especially if you're only painting the outside.

I'm not familiar with plastic dip spray. Do you have a link to the product?

Do you have a photo of the roof? I would be more inclined to stain the interior and exterior rather than paint. Low voc oil based stains are abundant and after airing for a few days won't be toxic

Maintaining your septic system properly can prevent expensive repairs and extend its lifespan. One of the most important septic tank health tips is to schedule inspections and pump-outs every 3 to 5 years. Also, avoid flushing non-biodegradable items or pouring grease and harsh chemicals down the drain. Conserving water reduces strain on the system, and keeping heavy vehicles off the drain field helps prevent damage. These habits ensure your septic system functions efficiently while protecting your property and the environment.
Yes, the Rust-Oleum clear gloss is safe once fully cured, especially if you wait 2–3 days before putting the chickens in. It's commonly used outdoors and should help protect the wood. For the roof, Plasti Dip can add some water resistance, but it might degrade over time. Consider reinforcing it with a more durable waterproof covering like a tarp or metal sheeting for better long-term protection.
