Waterville Maine 2012 Farm days swap @ Tractor Supply Co

in talking with the store today, they will improve their signage and put up the time of the swaps. We are also going back to Sundays for the Poultry/Farm Days swaps since there was a much better turn out on that day. (based on 3 swaps). this change will take effect starting in JULY.

I found some cages that I had put away and I will be bringing those. most are 24x24x30? with 1 1/2 wire spacing and pans, ideal for smaller rabbits, or holding cages. also carriers for small rabbits or small parrots- those are new. I may bring some guinea keets. I also have some overly large cages that would be easy to convert to chicken tractors (I have one that I use this way now). they are 30"wide x 36" tall x 7' long. wire spacing is 1x1 or 1 x 1/2 and on mine, I cut areas in the floor but you could remove the wire floor all together if you want.I added a set of wheels and now I'm good to go. those would take a truck or trailer to move, which I don't have a way to do that with my car, so those are pick up at my house only. 2 other wire cages even larger are also available, 5' high, 4' wide and 7' long. same with those, pick up at my house.

Hoping to pick up some pullets on Saturday..looking for Rhode Island Reds, or Barred Rocks about 4 to 6 months. Looking to get 5 or more. I hope it is a good turn out. Anyone here have anything like that?

if you don't find them at the waterville swap, superchemicalgirl said she was bringing older pullets to the augusta swap next weekend.

I'm going to bring some plants- purple prarie flowers.they are so pretty and bloom for most of the summer. those will be in 1 gal pots and they will spread out. I WAS going to bring tomato plants but my portable greenhouse blew over and now they are all mixed together. oh well, guess I will just plant them here and have lots of tomato varieties for next spring.

editted to change, I WAS going to bring some purple prarie plants but thanks to my dog, I will be leaving all but one of them home this week. i should have then for the augusta swap (dog decided to play with the pots- what was he thinking!!)

also will have 2 blue laced red wyandotte pullets, one heavy splash coloring (looks white laced) and one black laced.
a few buff silkies unsexed possible paint carriers. 1-2 white silkies unsexed and maybe one blue silkie pullet and of course a few guinea keets.

not a bad swap once it warmed up today- this morning was quite chilly. from this point on, these swaps for waterville will be held on the 2nd Sunday of the month. seems we get a better turn out on sundays for buyers and sellers.

I'll be coming unless I go out of town. now even sure what I will bring. i do have a few EE chicks, 1-2 black orpington pullets, 1 blue laced wyandotte cockeral. probably another wire cage 18x 24 with a pan 1x1/2 wire spacing. purple prairie plants. white silkie roo if I'm contacted ahead of time and hatching eggs in paint silkie, sizzle or a mix of all of those (contact prior so I can collect them), and turkeys, all slates.

I have this posted in the regular 'Maine' thread, but wanted to add it to the local chicken swap notices, also. We are about 45 minutes from Waterville.

FREE ROOSTER (like there aren't enough out there, already - right?!)

2 yr-old Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte. One of Hoppy's lines. (Check out his pictures!)
***edited, as I stand corrected by his original Mama - He's dark, but he's BLUE!

He is big and he is beautiful and he is an excellent rooster. Unfortunately, since I free range our birds, my daughter (almost 2) is not able to "free" play outside because this guy goes after her...EVERY time. He knows better than to bother me, he steers clear of hubby, and he has no problem with our dog & cat who are always out & about with the chickens, but our little girl must be just the 'right' size that he sees her as a threat/competition/SOMETHING!

Hubby has given the ultimatum that we either re-home him or he will have a new home in our freezer. I hate to see such a BEAUTIFUL rooster killed in the prime of his life and I'm hoping that somebody will take him?

He is FREE, you just have to come get him...and catch him (not an issue in the morning before they go out for the day). We live in Nobleboro - between Bath & Rockland and not far from Augusta. The original deadline given by hubby was tomorrow, but I have gotten him an extension to the weekend, so please let me know if there is any interest!!
