watery/goopy eye?

One of my Pekins has developed a goopy eye, with no other symptoms. He let me pick him up yesterday and soak it with a warm compress. It is rather crusty.

Any ideas what this could be and how to resolve it?

Do they free range...?....Possibly poked its eye on something?.....Do you provide deep enough water for them to dunk their heads past their eyes?.....

Cleaning it will help....

I let them free range for a few hours here and there until their house is ready. I just bought a 3 gallon water jug and cut out 3 large holes where it is deep enough for them to rinse their eyes.

I inspected him again this am, and the other eye looks a little junky too.
