my chicks that are 8-11 weeks old (one is older than the rest) have been having watery poo, you can hear the sqoosh everytime they poop
( sorry:D)once in awhile there’s some strange red looking thing in the poo, it’s been below 40 for the past week so we have them inside, they do drink a lot of water but could something else be causing the problem? could it be too much protein in their feed if so what is recommended, anything to harden up their stool in the meantime?

As long as the chicks are lively, eating well, and none are standing around looking lethargic, there probably is nothing wrong except they may be too warm.

Chicks over six weeks old have no problem with cool temps. In fact, many of us brood outdoors and in those early days of spring, the temp can get down to the 40s during the day and low 30s at night. Even chicks as young as a few days old will be running around most of the time, ducking back under heat only once in a while.

Fully feathered chicks are like you wearing a down jacket in the house. You might start to feel pretty uncomfortable wearing it in a heated house.

okay hopefully that’s the problem! all they poop is water in different colors :/ in the night theyre usually cuddling and theyre super warm but since it’s raining and it feels like 15 i didn’t wanna put them outside, it’s gonna drop to 3 in texas this week so i just put them inside, they look happy, running around, hopping on everyone, taking naps then trying to steal my sandwiches so they seem lively and happy. Hopefully their stools harden up, also do you think my adult chickens will be okay in the low temperatures? ive been putting them inside because it’s been below 20 and we have no way of heating them outside, what do you think?

Adult chickens are fine in the deep cold as long as they have a place to get out of the chill wind. Your chicks will require gradual acclimatizing once the cold snap is over. Start with short visits outside while lowering the temp on their indoor digs. They can be moved into the coop outdoor any time you wish.

You can try giving them a little boiled rice to firm up their poops, but keeping them as cool as possible while indoors will help a lot to firm up their poops. Taken on its own, watery poop means little.
