Open Contest Wattle I Do Without You?

Pics
This is my Princess Xena. Sadly Xena past away at the age of 13. She would become our house chicken and loved cuddling up and watching TV. She was super sweet. She had her own princess pillow that she would sleep on. Miss by little girl.View attachment 4287706
My heart melts into a puddle whenever they do the little head tilt to look at you. ❤️ 🫠

This is NOT Aretha.
This is Colonel Mustard.
I posted the wrong pic. 🙄
But he’s our main dude, so I’ll leave him here as Entry 1.
No, he has never been in a ballroom, kitchen, hall, study, conservatory, billiard room, dining room, nor lounge. 😂

I love colonel mustard! The duck and the character.

We too have a colonel mustard in our fleet but it looks quite different lol

Penny Marshall 💙❤️ my blue laced red wyandotte. Penny's time on this earth was relatively short- but for those who knew her she was a friend to all. This is her hatch day celebration in the Spring of last year!

One of my favorite pictures of her (and there are ALOT of pictures of her lol)

Meet Tassels seen here sending me death rays for locking her in the broody buster cage and packing ice blocks around her.
This was after she had been broody for over 6 weeks. I wouldn’t mind except she only leaves her nest if I forcibly remove her.
It is rumored that Tassels lays a beautiful army-green egg, but she does so only rarely because as soon as there are eggs in a nest (anyone’s eggs) she goes broody.
Such is her dominion over me that I eventually gave in and drove 8 hours to get chicks for her.
She was a fabulous mother and will always be special to me because she allowed me to experience (from a safe distance) the magic of a hen raising chicks.

Meet Maggie (RIP).
Maggie was one of my first chickens a RIR from Tractor Supply with 3 others. Maggie taught me that chickens are individuals with their own opinions (Maggie had lots of those!), likes and dislikes.
For some reason Maggie liked me.
Not just for treats (she really preferred to dig up her own treats), but for conversation. I can’t imagine my side of our chats was particularly enlightening to her as I never really understood the points she was making, but she would always come and stand on the arm of my lawn chair and look me in the eye and explain something to me. Then she would listen carefully to my response as she is doing here, and then patiently, and sometimes not so patiently, explain it all to me again!
Fly high Maggie - I still miss our chats.

Entry #3

Meet Bernadette (RIP).
At three weeks of age Bernie lost the use of her legs (first one then the other) and was unable to walk. She was such a commanding leader however that she ruled over her brooder buddies from a seated position.
What followed was many, many weeks of industrial quantities of vitamin B and daily physical therapy so that her tendons would not contract.
I nearly euthanized her twice, but there was something about Bernie.
Here she is shortly after she informed me that she no longer needed therapy. She is showing off her long and totally functioning legs.
She went on to rule benignly (if noisily) and in adulthood became, what I think is the most accurate description, non-binary being devoted to a little hen called Eli.
