Enjoy your coop/run project...the more time you spend making it safe, the longer and more fulfilled of a chicken life you will have! Kudos to you for fixing it back up!
Welcome from Iowa!
The Summer of Chicken That's an excellent quote and it's going to be my summer too. Glad to have you here to share it.
Keep reading, you'll learn so much here. The list of "purty" chickens is long, long, long. Have you seen Blue Andlusians or Buff Orpintons yet? Purty!
Keep reading - there's also a search button up above on the blue bar.
From just down south of yeah/ I am in columbus,IN and had good luck with Craigslist for my pulletts. Its kind of a crap shoot. Cause you just don't know if they are being honest about age and other stuff. But i got lucky.
Wow!
I'm all verklempt by the warm welcomes...and so many Hoosiers! Yay!
Carole AM - thanks for the tip on the swap in Knox but the 19th is too soon for me to get my hens. They'd have nowhere safe to live unless I kept them in the henhouse and that still needs de-junking.
I rechecked it last night and there's a fan hooked up to an extension cord. Once I get it cleared out I may find there electric has been run to the coop. Wouldn't that be nice?
2009NewChick: yup the Buff Orps are pretty - but I am now obsessed with whatever breed is pictured on the Hobby Farms calendar for April - it looks an awful lot like an Orp but has some partridgey coloring on the back feathers.
Anyone know what it is?
