So we adopted a chicken from our neighbor and all of a sudden we have five and a chicken palace next to our house.

I’m kind of excited and a little worried we’ve lost our minds.

I’d appreciate any thoughts on things you see immediately wrong. We’re first time urban chicken keepers.

We basically put a 3-5 chicken coop inside a 10x12 run with hardware cloth on every wall and chicken wire on the top.

The only thing I would suggest is a cover (like a tarp) in the winter to keep the wind out right over the top and along the sides. I didn't see where you lived, but if you get snow/wind they will appreciate the cover.

I say this because my chickens free range 100% so the entire barn is basically their coop and they still enjoy walking around and not being blown off their feet by the weather.

Oh and Yes, you probably have lost your mind but you are in good company so worry about it too much. Chickens, for some reason are addictive and I cannot come up with a reason why except they are so darn cute, and funny, and sweet..... and they produce beautiful eggs..... and you can eat them if you wish.... and........:idunno

My only suggestion would be to add hardware cloth or welded wire to the roof. Depending on the types of predators you get something could climb up and go through the chicken wire. As others have said shade or snow protection would also be nice when needed. Those things don't have to be permanent but let's face it you will be spoiling them.

Yes, we're all crazy here. You've come to the right place.
:welcome

Backyard Chickens or La La Land as I like to call it

I don’t know why this happens either but I’m up to about 80 birds now. Is there anything to stop predators from digging under your run like a hardware cloth apron buried under the dirt around the outside.

What you're "infected" with is chicken math!

Nice set up - I like how you followed the slant of the roof and sort of extended it off your house/shed/garage there. Only thing I can suggest is some form of shade cloth over the top, but without knowing your climate, direction of the sun, etc maybe that's not necessary.
