If the shower curtain is pulled across the tub, that means you do not have permission to look behind it. No different from opening a dresser drawer or closet door. Miss Prissy said it well; it borders on dishonesty, and at the least is quite rude.

I am far from a clean freak or neat freak. I once took my baby to a new sitter. I could see from the front door that the house was quite dirty; not messy or lived in, REALLY DIRTY. I did not inspect any further, I left. With the baby, even though I was due at work.

When I was a little kid I used to look behind people's shower curtains just to make sure I was alone when I went to the bathroom, I got paranoid? I don't care if its dirty as long as I don't have to get in it.

I can definitely understand about not wanting your small childrens playing in an extremely dirty place. I once stayed at a friend's house over night, I woke up in the middle of the night coughing out dog hair which turned out to be all over the pillow and blankets, and the next day I had a sore throat and got sick, the place was just filthy, and I'm the kind of person who spends every day outside in the dirt, but some places just need better hygiene.

My dad got sick of his BIL's girlfriend going through their medicine cabinet.

So he removed it from the wall, laid it flat on the counter and put a bunch of marbles in there and replaced it. He had marble countertops and a tile floor.

She never visited again.

Opening a shower curtain to peek behind it would have never, ever occured to me. And if were to find out that people were doing at my house, I would be saddened to discover that my guests thought so poorly of me that they were judging my tub's cleanliness rather than appreciating me for my friendship and my hospitality.

I cannot imagine anything less interesting than what is behind a shower curtain or in a medicine cabinet. If I found someone poking around where they didn't belong, they would not be invited back. Period.

If I caught someone being that rude in my house, such as peeking in the fridge, looking behind the shower curtain, checking out the corners behind the trash can. They would be getting a close up and personal peek at my front door as they were being escorted out.

I am pretty sure that if I suspected a guest was doing such, I would politely ask one of our three pet snakes to wait for them in the tub. Our snakes are sweethearts, but being shocked by one would even frighten me.

Some of us are busy, some of us are scatterbrained (that is me, BTW), and some of us just don't care. I think we should all respect everyone's personal space. Oh, and if a house is truly NASTY you DON'T have to sneak a peek in the shower to find out!!!!

All I know is, once I get off work tonight, I'm going home to clean my showers.
I'm not taking any chances.
Actually, I do pretty much clean my house daily, but with two teens, 6 dogs and a pack of parrots in the house and a yard full of dirt and critters, if I didn't do dishes and floors every day, we'd be buried by now.

Question: Why do short haired dogs shed more hair EVERYWHERE than any of my longhairs used to? I swear, my smooth (double coated BC X Kelpie sheds a whole puppy's worth of hair daily in my bedroom. God love him. It looks like he has a new litter of pups every day.
(Oh yeah, if I do get a surprise guest, dirty laundry or whatever goes into my shower, then I have the guests use the kids' bathroom. It's a bathroom shared by two teenaged girls - enter at your own risk)
