Or should I say my dear boyfriend is building a coop for "my" chickens . (*cough* as if an entire barn wasn't enough for me.)
That being said, I'm curious to see others' coops for ideas. We're beginning construction this week.

You really must tell us what breeds you want or already have and of course folks will want to see your coop!

We are all about them pictures. ;)

Be sure to read up on dealing with muddy runs and proper ventilation. SOOO much easier to plan for the to fix later.

Myself.... I am a bit of a nut and keep several breeds. My all time favorites of course are black Australorp, buff Orpington and the nutty bantam Cochin's.

How about you? Any favorites?

I built an 8 x 12 lean to shed for my coop. I still have to make my windows. Ask questions before you build, it will be easier. Think about making a roosting board, it will keep your coop cleaner. How big are you planning on making it?

We are building a new coop too! I will be posting pics as we go. We are working on the run right now and then will move onto the coop. Our coop will be under our covered run and is going to be a quaker style coop that I designed. If I get a chance I will post a rough sketch tomorrow. Good luck with yours. It took me forever to finally get everything figured out.

1. EASY to clean. Cannot stress this enough!
2. Well ventilated
3. Proper size (3 sq feet minimum per bird)
4. Roosts should be higher than nesting boxes
5.Predator proof
6. Properly sized Roosts
7. You don't need as many nesting boxes as you think! They are all gonna try and use the same one anyway! (can I hear an amen?)
8.Easy to access roosts (the best way to catch a chicken is to pluck them off the roost at night!)
9. GO LOOK IN THE COOP SECTION! so many great ideas!!
