Wasn't sure where exactly to post this so I am trying here :) I am so excited! We are getting our first 3 chickens next week! A co- worker of my hubby's needs to find homes for 8 of his chickens and we are taking 3 of them. We think they are Rhode Island Reds but won't be sure until next week. All I know right now is that they are red and about 3 years old. Just had to post about them! Can't wait to meet them :)

At three years old you may not get too many eggs. But chickens are a hoot for a pet. RIR are pretty much done laying by three.

I've got a three year old RIR who not only lays regularly, but she went broody for the first time this past summer. I was SO surprised!

Guess we don't know their ages exactly, just know they are still laying eggs. We will know more tomorrow and as soon as I get some pictures I will put them up :) My hubby is almost done with our A- Frame style coop so hopefully we will be already by time they get here Monday or Tuesday.

I am pretty sure you are going to have more fun than you can imagine.
That may sound a little strange. After all, they are just chickens. Right?
Well, we have had ours for 3 months and they have brought so many
laughs and silliness into our lives. Hope you enjoy yours as much
    as we do. Peace :>

Get ready to fall in love! Chickens are a joy. We have a RIR named Nellie aka Nosy Nellie, the incredible honking hen (lol...she honks like a goose...) Our chickens make me smile every day, and BYC is a great place to learn about them and share the fun! Welcome!

Congrats and welcome! Raising chickens is a true adventure, let me tell ya. We've had tons of laughs and silliness since we embarked on our chicken adventure exactly one year ago. We've also dealt with some issues, so remember this is a great place to come for super great advice! The amazing folks here have helped us tons with a myriad of questions and emergencies. [IMG]
