Last night, my DS, DD, and DH were out looking for Zorro, our Rosecomb Black Bantam, who did not show up on his roost. They scoured his usual hangout and NOTHING. My kids began to become frantic, thinking he was lost to a hawk...but DH insisted on one last sweep around the pool area, where our chickens hunt for bug among the shrubs that surround the pool (which is fenced in, but bantams slip underneath the railing). And LO and BEHOLD, they saw black tail feathers from the SKIMMER!!!! DH braced the kids for the worse and lifted the cover to find that the bird was emersed completed up to the neck --he was treading water!!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? This bird fell in, was sucked up, and LIVED!!!! We quickly blew him drew with the hair dryer and returned him to his thankful partner, Bonnie! This morning the pair and happy and healthy!!!! WHEW!
Wow! That is wonderful! Amazing! You have one very smart chicken. hehe I am glad that it turned out ok for you and your children.
How horrifying it must have been for poor Zorro! I am so glad he was found before it was too late!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Extra treats for all today! JJ
That is one lucky rooster. I didn't know chickens knew how to tread water, now I do. I don't mean it in a mean way, but the picture I get in my mind is hilarious.
