In our new batch of chickens we got a rooster. He is the most loveable rooster and loves to cuddle. If you put him on your chest or lap, he will immediately sit down and get comfortable. His name is Marty and he is a Bard Rock Rooster. He loves grapes and whenever he sees me going over to the grapes, he runs like his tail is on fire. We also got two New Hampshire Reds and another Golden Laced Wyandotte to replace our one that died. The Wyandotte's name is Martha and she loves to cuddle as well. I had her on my lap and she fell asleep listening to Jack Johnson. I will try to get pictures for you guys. :thumbsup

How fun! My neighbours rooster also loves to be snuggled. We purposely snuggled him since they got him at 3 months and now he's full grown and the sweetest thing ever. It doesn't work for all roosters though. How old is the roo you just got?

I would never cuddle any of my chickens, but- all are destined for the table at one point or another. I take superb care of them, but no lovin from me! lol

There you have it...some chickens are loved members of the family and others are livestock.
That's OK, it's the differences that make life interesting!

Oh by the way - I love roosters!

My rooster "Bumni", a barred rock, died in January. He was so loveable, such a good boy. I was in such grief over his death.

But I still have my "Frito". He is a Rhode Island Red. The breed is know for being aggressive. But not my Frito, he is my Boo-ba-la! Him and Bumni were pen mates for 2 and a half years. Now Frito, has two flocks he takes care of. He spends his morning having breakfast with me. Then, he's off to the spend time with the young flock. In the evening he heads over to sleep with the old girls. What a lover!!! Ha-ha-ha!

Here they are with my hubby.

I too love my roosters! I do not buy into the thought of do not allow your rooster to get too close to you. My Sir Romeo Luigi is my lover boy. I think he has chosen me for his mate. He follows me everywhere. He is in his second year and I have not sensed him trying to dominate me. He merely wants to be with me....all the time.
Enjoy your rooster!

My cockerel is awesome! I thought I got all pullets, but surprise, the black sex link pullet turned out to be neither a black sex link nor a pullet. By the time we found that out, he had become a beloved family pet. Being new to chickens I read up on roosters and found a lot of mean rooster stories. But I also found many nice rooster stories too. We gave Cosmo the benefit of the doubt and at 6 months old not only has he remained a sweetheart, but he’s a great protector of the flock and supplier of treats to his girls. His antics are hilarious and I love starting my day to his enthusiastic crowing!
