We got our first egg today... Happy Easter!!!!

So after about 30 mins of "Tik" our Barred Rock, squawking and clucking, digging around in the nest box, we got our very first ever egg around 2:30pm'ish. Now the other five girls better start laying soon ;-)

It was really amazing though, as Tik was in the nest making all that noise and digging, the other 5 were at the base of the ramp huddle together looking up the ramp into the coop. It was like they were waiting to see how things went. Every few mins one of the other hens would walk up the ramp, take a look, not getting too close then walking back out. We Tik was done laying, she came out, and got some water and the other girls went and checked out the nest then came out and gathered around Tik... This is so awesome !!!

Thanks!!! It was awesome to see how excited our daughter was finding it after waiting patiently for Tik to leave the nest...

How old is she? Just wondering. Trying to gauge where my barr rock is.

She is 22wks 3days. She started the "egg squat" about 7 days ago, and laid today. Within the past week she got super vocal (way more than she already was) and anytime they were in the yard roaming she never left my side. Today for a few hours she was in and out of the nest all day squawking and clucking so loud, taking breaks every few mins (almost to the point we thought something was wrong) She laid the egg and she was back out with the others like nothing ever happened... Can't wait for the other five to start laying!!!
