I sort of have the opposite reaction. Since we've hatched our own eggs, when I collect them to eat, I kind of feel a little sorry that the potential chick inside.

It's got to take a lot of quail eggs to fill up a 14 year old boy!

Oh, when I was pregnant and got my ultrasounds, all I could think of was how cool would it be to have one and home and play around to check things out. Or have a little window installed in me. The reality is probably a lot grosser than the imagined, I'm thinking.

Still waiting for the Star Trek "beam me up, Scottie!" transporter beam as an alternate to the giving birth part...

my neighbor was a science teacher, they incubated eggs in the class room. She somehow made a hole in an egg so the students could watch the incubation. I'm sure she covered the whole with something but don't know what she used. maybe look up incubation experiments.

In college we made holes in shell and made chicks with 2 hearts and 3 wings, etc. But eventually we euthanize the chicks before their nervous system was fully formed (and arguably before they can feel pain). It was cool. I don't remember how we kept things clean. It definitely wasn't a sterile environment. I also don't know how the eggs were kept after that. I'm sure turning them wasn't an issue!

It would be neat to see a chick pipping and zipping and turning, etc.

We didn't poke holes in the eggs but would open the eggs throughout incubation day 1-17 until hatch. We got to see heart beats, dissected brains, and learned more about the quail before they..... It was sad at first but for scientific purposes someone has to learn. I am thankful for all the avian embryology classes because they stuck!

Congrats!!
It is fun finding them!

All 5 of my girls are laying steady now. I swear the like to tease my son though. They will lay an egg 5 min. after he's checked and left the room.
