We have finally been able to get two girls to replace the three ducks we had to give up.

Introducing Salt and Peppa!

The others were very curious about them. Duckter and Maggie talked the whole time, while Sunshine watched. Cupcake, the male Muscovy, jumped up onto the top of the fencing and then hopped inside the enclosure to meet them personally. Once he established his maleness... everything seemed okay. After about 25 minutes, we opened the fencing up so everyone could meet. Pepa immediately confronted Sunshine, who up until this point was the loudest and dominant female (Confetti didn't seem to care in the past). Sunshine didn't perform well, and now avoids Pepa. Seems Pepa put the foot down. All that was great until Confetti decided the two new girls needed a lesson in hierarchy. Cupcake intervened a couple of times with a well timed hiss. The other three, especially Maggie and Duckter, seem to accept the two new girls as if they were always here. They don't treat the new girls any different from someone else in the flock. We will see how they are in the morning. Salt and Pepa will have to learn how things are done, but that will come with time.

Aside from color, there is one thing that really sets the two new girls apart from Confetti. Their tales point upwards, whereas Confetti's tail is smooth and flat, almost parallel to the ground.

Female body side view. My Muscovy drakes tail feathers are all broken from fighting with my gander so I can’t give a good pic of drake from the side. Maybe @Soon2BChixMom can post a pic of her drake side view . Drakes are much longer from head to tail than females and don’t have the football shape females have

stop moving! Hopefully this does the trick.

Maggie, our Male Pekin, does seem to want to mount Confetti, but I don't think he quite knows what to do just yet.
