We installed a chicken cam and now I don't get anything done all day!

I'm spending too much time watching the chicken channel. Our chickens are just starting to lay (or about to) and the drama about who gets what nest box is all too compelling. What is wrong with me?

Nothing wrong with being chicken obsessed! Otherwise, you wouldn't be on this site.

We're looking to get a camera for our coop as well. I'm thinking we might go with a wireless security camera, but we only just started researching. What kind do you have and how do you like it?

here is the link to the camera we bought. I can't fully recommend it as it is a discontinued model and there is no support from the manufacturer. It is difficult to set up, requiring a tech geek level of LAN and WLAN knowledge.

My husband gave it to me for Christmas. I wish I had known he was going to give it to me and I would have done more research here on BYC. But now that it's working, it's great watching. It's like watching a slow speed chase on the news. not much action, but you feel like watching to the end to see how it turns out.

Your subject line produced an immediate "Duh!" from me when I read it. I put one up in my yard and had the same problem. I am going to move it when I get the new coop built...

Can't resist the urge to watch when I am home and inside, but I could go outside and watch 'em, too. Except when it is cold out... LOL

Cool I thought I was the only one to think of this. I got a security cam and I watch it in the house too. That way when they lay I can go out and get them. No freezing that way. Will be -20 here tonight. I think I got mine at wal-mart or Sam's one og the two. They work great and I can see into nest after hen has left. Sometimes when it is real cold I wait until I see 5 or 6 in the nests. YES you can see the eggs in there even the small ones they at first.

GREAT GET ONE.

It's like chicken reality TV. Today they were behaving more like Jersey Shore than anything else. Bobby, the tiny bantam cochin went on the rampage after all the big girls. (She just started laying this week and I wonder if she is all hopped up on hormones.) I couldn't look away!

Sorry you got me going now. I have 9 eggs in lockdown witch started yesterday about noon. I had to go set it up so I can sit here in the office and check on them without going in there. Day 19. I was told to lock them down and sit on my hands, WELL that is what I am doing. There is always a way to get around things. Thanks for the idea
