so we just bought 12 chicks about 3 weeks all pullets as we where told.

i want to be able to mark them what would be the best to use.

i have no idea what to use never had chicks before when i first got chickens they where a year old already i didn't have to do anything with them..

and if you guys would like i can post picks of them we have 4 barred rocks, 1 easter egger ( i think ) and 7 new hampshire reds.

Quote:I like to use tiny, colored zip ties to keep track of who is who in the beginning. Please exercise caution, however, not to tie them too close to the leg. They grow in size SO quickly and if you're not paying very close attention, they can out-grow them very quickly and begin to dig into their legs (or worse). They will need to be changed several times as the chicks grow and you should always allow a respectable amount of space between the tie and the leg (it should fit more like a bracelet than a ring).

I've used Halloween hair spray paint, applied to a Q-tip and then onto their little heads or backs, but it wears off much too quickly (and was fairly stinky).
