I'm wondering if I should go for feed now with the half bag left and risk them already having chicks, or wait until I really need the feed and KNOW there will be chicks...must resist

Three years ago, I decided to special order "a few" chicks. The limit started out at five.

I somehow ended up ordering twenty-nine chicks.

At PPBA, my ultimate poultry purchase limit was $100 and six birds. Seven birds and $200 later, I decided very reluctantly that I was done.

Wouldn't you know it. Filling out paperwork for 4-H, my daughter finds out they're giving away 10 chicks to anyone interested in doing a broiler project.

Oh well. At least we can eat them!

You do realize that with young children doing 4-H is pretty much a 1:1 childarent ratio so far as time and effort are involved?

I went to the feed store saturday with my kids. I said all the way there( don't have ducklings, don't have duckling) of course they did and I pick out two. One for my teenage daughter and my son. She was better than me, she kept saying no mom. She had a teen friend and she wanted one so bad that I bought her one to keep here. I just can't pass the ducklings up, they are so cute.

Hubby came home this weekend and announced I was officially banned from TSC til the chicks were gone!

I've already got 15 in the house from Atwoods.

Yes, I was in 4-H as a kid. I'm just excited to see her excited and most of it is stuff we're doing anyway.

You people are seriously in cahoots with my children. They desperately want duckling because they're so cute. Maybe I can keep one at your place, too, and show them the pictures on the internet?

I'm banning myself from Orscheln's, but my husband actually called and asked if we needed any more chicks when I sent him for the heat lamp for our injured chick. I resisted (so much easier when you aren't looking at them!) and told him if he couldn't resist, at least get broilers. There is a limit to how many eggs we can eat, after all!
