Hi and welcome to byc

I too would love to see a picture. Sounds like an EE or Am bantam maybe

2 Amazon Parrots (24yrs & 18yrs), 1 EE Rooster, 1 leghorn, 3 EE, 2 White Rocks, 3 Barred Rocks, 3 RIR's, Pekin Duck, Crested Drake, 6 Welsh Harlequins, 7 Saxonys, 1 Buff Orpington Bantam Rooster, 2 OEGB Bantams, and wanting Pilgrim Geese

I would like to know what is meant by EE Rooster, 3 EE, 3 RIR, 2 OEGB

Do I need a net for ducks so they don't fly? Or can I just have them in an open pen? How about geese? I would love to have another bird to compliment my chickens. I also think of getting a couple turkeys to keep the chickens safe. What do people think of this? What advice do you have?

I'll help you oyt here after I say:

Thank you, Froggieshein, and everyone!

I am not sure if I have 10 yet! (I am laughing. It is indeed addictive to read all the good stuff about the chickens and chicken owners!

My mom, friend who is staying with us, and I all would love to get a couple of dogs, but they are so expensive:
Food, vet, bathe, take out for a walk all the time, etc. So, we are going to get two goats! They will be our "dogs". They will eat our blackberries, mow our yard where my father had a beautiful perfect lawn, and be pets that we love. Hopefully, they will even go on a leash for walks. I am looking for two wethers, hopefully Nigerian Dwarf, but other small size. If I LOVE my goaties, I may choose to get a doe-- and milk her twice a day as one must!

For now, I have the 7 hens, and 2 roosters, and 4 kitties and a bee hive. The barn for the goats is down there, and the pasture fence is almost made, and I bought an electric netting fence so the goats can go into other areas to eat!

Oh get fainting goats, they are even more fun. Check out Mary(the sheriffs) posts on the Icelandic chicken thread - she has four of them - you can read /see them at her blog for Buck n' run ranch.

I LOVE your approach!! Dogs are fun but are TOO demanding!!!!

I have always liked cats. Cats "check in" once in awhile but otherwise are on their own except for occasional incredibly soft snuggle-sessions....

I studied insects in college but have never kept bees....

Glad you have some because the diseases have been bad on them in the past few years!!

More recently, chickens have won my heart because they're chatty and incredibly social!! (And yes, sometimes annoying:lol:). Honestly, I was "picked on" a lot when I was young and I think that taking care of and watching chickens would be a good experience for any middle-school kid.

I've seen a rooster go from a crowing strutty proud boy to a quiet meek chicken....just from being moved from one flock to another. Randy this means you and I wanna hear that little ol' Brabanter crow this spring!!!!

I can't wait to see a pic of your new rooster!!
