Thank you for all the kind words. It means so much to us.

I was a mess yesterday, and today it still hurts a lot. When I went to feed the girls this morning I almost broke down because Nikki wasn't there to greet me. But I know it'll eventually get easier.

Sorry for your loss.

Sadly too many production bred hens' lives are just much too short.

We thought we were going into this with enough knowledge from the reading we did beforehand. However, we've learned so much from our girls that we just couldn't have picked up in books or forums.

Like most new chicken owners we were steered into picking our 3 girls by the clerk at the feed store not knowing anything about the breeds she recommended. As much as we love Nikki and for as wonderful as she was we'll never get another production bred hen for a pet.
