we want to drain and preserve our first egg.

I blow (Maybe not the right term. I use a needleless syringe and one hole, and use a needle and shaking to break up the yolk) any eggs I want to save out, rinse them out, then fill with plaster of Paris. I make dummy eggs this way too, and they last a fair while even with heavy use of a bird sitting on them. It makes them heavier and less fragile which you may or may not want. Once the shell does break down, then you still have a plaster mold of it though.

This product, called Blasfix, is what I use to blow out eggs for ornaments and pysanky. It's an awesome little tool, only needs one hole to work and comes with a little hand drill to drill perfect holes every time without breaking the egg. DEFINITELY worth the $7. I can easily blow out a dozen eggs in about 10-15 minutes and don't even have to put my mouth on the egg!
