She could have been thin for a while without me noticing but i am certain that she was active and doing well before.. at least yesterday morning and i was told she was fine in the afternoon aswell. I gave her some egg yolk from a hard boiled egg, but i do not have access to those other productsA 2-3wo chick does not get thin in just 36 hours.
Egg yolk mashed up .....
and give her some Sav-A-Chick electrolytes/vitamins,
or better yet, some Poultry Nutri Drench.
Ah, didn't notice your location before.i do not have access to those other products.....Is there anything else i should do? Should i let her sleep in a dark and warm place or keep her warm in my hands, and wake her up from time to time?
She drinks when i dip her beak in water (or sugar water) but only eats if i place food in her beak. ( not force feeding, i open her beak and place a bit of egg yolk at the tip. If she doesn’t want it, she throws it out, but most of the time she swallows. )Ah, didn't notice your location before.
Make sure she gets hydrated, mix egg yolk with water if she's not drinking.
Is she eating and drinking on her own?
Definitely keep her warm, but not in your hands.
Do you have a heat lamp or something setup for the chick heat?
Crushed beans? Hopefully they are cooked, uncooked beans have a toxin in them that is poisonous to chickens.I’m feeding her crushed beans... will that do? And i will do the sugar water. I have done it in the past but forgot about it, thank you
My guess would be something happened with the kids if they were playing with the chicks unsupervised.I’m raising a few babies at the moment, they are about 2-3 weeks old. I was not home yesterday or this morning but i got someone to take care of them. They have kids, and told them they could play with the chicks as long as they were being very careful. They know to wash their hands before and after handling the chicks, and how fragile the babies are.
I came back about an hour ago and went to check on them and one of them is in very bad shape. Very weak, EXTREMELY thin (which i found quite odd as all the others were fine, and they all had access to food and water). I separated her from the rest, and I tried to make her eat and drink, she drinks pretty well but only eats if i place a bit of food in her beak (not in the throat, at the tip of the beak). She can stand but won’t walk, but the people taking care of her told me she was very active yesterday and running around, but this morning was already quite weak. and i checked her poop which looked pretty normal. I don’t know what to do!! Should i let her rest or keep her awake? Should i feed her that way anymore? Keep her warm or could it be some kind of overheating? Could it be because of the kids?
Yes, they are cooked. I cooked then crushed them.Crushed beans? Hopefully they are cooked, uncooked beans have a toxin in them that is poisonous to chickens.
