Well, this morning I went out to let my 6 week old Easter Eggers out, and behold I only had four of five exit the coop. I wondered why their water dispenser was tipped over, and behold I had one baby laying there deceased. Closer inspection and researching it led me to learn that it was a weasel attack. I have only ever had problems with possums, so this was new to me. I have read up on something called a Weasel Box you can make, so my husband and I are about to build one or two of them.

Have any of you built or used a weasel trap? Were you successful? We have all possible holes in the coop covered up, and now we will be setting these traps out tonight.

A weasel box is just a fancy moveable version of a cubby or cubby hole set. Most weasel boxes use a killer type trap and they are very selective in the type of vermin that they will admit inside. Almost zero by-catch so there is no worry about Spot and Puff getting their toes pinched. There is a larger aquatic version called a "mink box" that will almost guarantee your sweetie a mink collar, again no by-catch, this is a good addition to your coy pond. Just keep a couple of your weasel and or mink boxes baited and set year round. When dealing with vermin it is better to be proactive than be chicken-less.

Thank you for the responses- we have had no luck yet and have set the weasel box that my husband made out every night following the attack.
