Weasel in the barn

2 years ago I had a weasel kill a hen and her baby.

Today I seen one in my barn with a mouse in its mouth.

I have learned Pepermint helps keep rats and mice out of a coop.
(Have minty fresh coops)

Since, no rats or mouse droppings where there were tons.

Does this mean I am fairly safe?????

Just sick over seeing this today.
Any help would be awesome!!!!!

Predators always take the easiest prey. I am surprised it got a mouse before a chicken, but regardless, the next time it is hungry, it will come back to where it knows there is food. You have to insure your chickens are secured, as you have seen first hand that it was in the barn. It will come after your chickens.

I would put 1/2" or 1/4" hardware cloth over that. Not only to keep out the weasels, but raccoons can also get through chicken wire. Pretty much anything can get through chicken wire except chickens. It keep them in, nothing else out.

I am covering the top edge with cedar boards.

Nothing I can do about the duck house as the floor is a plastic pallet so it can be hosed out.
There is pretty small gauge wire around the bottom.

Right - rather than using cedar boards, maybe put hardware cloth around the top. That leaves your ventilation open, and small enough openings that small varmints can't get through.
