Weasel Problem?!

This morning I went out to our chicken coop and found one of my black Australorpes lying headless by the pophole door. There were feathers everywhere, and one of her wings had been torn completely off. Our 20x24 chicken yard is covered in chicken wire, with a screen door as the opening (which has been covered over in hardware cloth), and we have buried hardware cloth six inches down around nearly the entire perimeter (a stump keeps us from putting hardware cloth along a section of the perimeter.) There was a hole in the chicken wire, where we have a six inch stretch of wire between two 2x4's. It doesn't look as if the wire was chewed, it looks as if someone pulled it up with their hand.

From the research I've done, it seems as if we had a weasel get in, but can weasels create such a big hole? Can they just shimmy through the chicken wire? A couple of the websites I've visited said that the weasel will come back until there is nothing left to kill. Has anyone else had this problem?

So sorry! That's why us old fogies recommend never using chicken wire to protect chickens; it doesn't! Get hardware cloth and secure it very well to the framing, and consider adding woven wire or cattle panels over it too. That critter will return until you trap and shoot it. Don't trap and relocate!!! I hope your birds are protected now. Mary
