Weasels with electric netting?

Okay, this is good to know! So just put bait in it, and then if there are weasels around they will end up there instead of in my designated free range area?

Keep a bucket full of water nearby with a lid on it . Drown it while its still in the trap. Best bait is a whole fish wrapped inside chicken wire mesh. It'll be good for at least a year.

Interesting! Why the chicken wire wrapped around it? Also, you mean you can literally leave the whole raw fish sitting in the trap for a year, or am I reading that wrong? Sorry if these are dumb questions.

Leave them hanging on an electric fence with a piece of wire to encourage predators to smell it (and get shocked) In a weasel box you place it in the far corner opposite from the entrance .One fish cut in chunks can make several fish & wire burritos. The wire keeps the fish from falling apart & holds it together even after it dries.The scent stays on it a year.

We have a .75 acre pond on our property and it's like..... RIGHT there. In our yard. Haha. Hence why I can't imagine we won't have trouble with weasels at some point. We also have hawks. And I saw a mink the other day. Raccoon prints and poo on our deck a few weeks ago. And then there's the fox family that lives next door......

We have made our chickens a "designated free range area" so that they can free range while we aren't watching. There are DEFINITELY foxes around so this should prevent those. I'm currently brainstorming a way to deter weasels, as I'm pretty sure they could manage to get through the 2"x3" netting at the base of the fence without getting shocked. Do any of you have experience with this?

We realize that any amount of free ranging (even in a designated area) will come with some risks, but hoping to mitigate as many as possible!

So, we opened our duck house one day and 11 ducks were injured and three were dead. Took them to a trapper friend and he identified the attacker as a weasel, gave us a small trap device and told us—it would be back tonight, set the trap here blah blah blah.
The next morning an 8 ounce weasel was dead in it! The damage. This tiny thing did! We found a safer trap in an article and boguht it from Amazon. Turns out we didn’t need it—we found the entry holes and wont have that happene again.
