Webcam! Hatching Dyed Embryos.

Wow! That is really cool. I can't wait to see them all dried out. I didn't even know you could dye chicks still in the egg. So you inject with a needle? It doesn't crack the shell?

See it as interesting that several green ones are hatching but none of the blue or red ones yet. Color seems to fade a lot after they dry too. I wonder if that has to do with them not being white chicks.

I'd read about changing your chick's coloring using injectable dye.....but hadn't seen it! Too cool! I'm coming back in the morning to see if the blues or reds have hatched!

Thanks for the awesome cams too! Who doesn't love watching chicks?! (They're obviously not chicken-infactuated, like most of us here!)

I see a red one!!! I have neon food coloring. You should try that next time. They have pruple and lime greens. Where did you get a insulin needle? I want to do this with some leghorn eggs since I think they will hold the color a lot better but have no clue where to get a needle.

This is usually done with leghorns so it should work better with them. I did see the neon colors at the store an may try them later. Feed stores carry bigger needles an most diabetics keep a supply of the ones I used. Needles are not controlled so on paper you should be able to buy them but because of the US drug problem many pharmacists dont like to sell them to someone they don't know. You can buy them here in small numbers. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=9709&cmpid=05cseaz&ref=4144&subref=AA
