Yep, gaited horse, I saw that site and that is what made me think she is a "jug" - I think we are on the right track. She looks just like some of those - I am sure the variety of Jack Russell has a lot to do with the "jug's" looks. But nobody there listed the size of their jugs with the pics. But I guess it wouldn't be unusual for a mix to be bigger than either of their parent breeds. This little pup is already nearly as tall as the neighbor's purebred pug.
The question is why would someone leave a box of designer puppies on the curb? Well, any puppies for that matter, but at this time of year you'd think they could have sold these little guys.
I did put "pug mix" on her vet papers. My brother wants to do one of those DNA tests to see what she is - I'll let everyone know what comes back. Some people in my agility club got their mutts tested hoping for an ILP so they could compete in AKC agility, but a few results came back "inconclusive" (in other words Heinz 57, like Sarah says) and they got their money back.

8 pounds at 8 to 10 weeks? Its not going to be a small dog. My guess is a shepherd, chow cross. Shepherd crosses usually have a dark tail. This seems to be a dominant trait. As for the stubby nose & semi-curled tail, chow.
