Wee Brown Christmas Mutt Puppy - Any Breed Guesses?

Every Chow mix that I ever saw (and I've owned and lived near a few) has had long hair, in addition to the mixed black tongue and curled tail. I'm just NOT seeing Chow Chow when I see that pup.

My grandma had a curly tailed dog with black down it's butt/tail like that. It's name was Streaky and I immediately thought of him when I saw the pup. It was a "Feist" though, which is basically a hunting mutt

so it doesn't help with a breed ID

The paws do not scream "big dog" to me --- which is usually how I determine how big a puppy will get. She's got a cute little face!!!!

She is a cutie! Reminds me of my little Molly. We think she is a Jack and Staffie mix.
I see terrier and Pug. Topping out about 35 lbs. But there are many possibilities.

Wow, was this little pup ever a big hit on Christmas morning! My brother came over to get her at about four in the morning. When he got home he snuck in the house quietly and just let her loose on the kids' bed (they were sleeping in the same bed, since they were beside themselves trying to sleep on Christmas eve). This is NOT a shy puppy! She just went crazy licking the kids awake. I'll post pics when my brother sends some to me.

The kids have changed the poor pup's name about 10 times already. First it was Ginger, then Gigi, then Happy, and today she is Princess Buttercup.

Thanks for all the guesses about her breed! It is really fun to see the difference in opinion. I think she is going to be a medium-sized dog. I've raised both collies and shelties and she is definitely smaller than a collie pup at the same age (my collie girls tend to be about 50-55 pounds when grown) but bigger than the shelties were, except for my huge 35 pound sheltie - I think this pup will be about that size. I also think she is older than the shelter said because it seems like overnight she has gone from that stubby-legged puppy stage to being all legs.

No black on the tongue. Her tail is not very curly, she just carries it in a slight curve somewhat over her back. Her coat is plush with a short dense undercoat and rather sparse and also short outer coat.

Since I don't have Christmas morning pics to share yet, here are some on Christmas eve, playing with the collies. She learned VERY quickly that the collies play very nice unless you bite their feet and then you get taken down FAST! LOL My poor girls were looking for her everywhere Christmas day after she had gone home.

She doesn't look like a Puggle to me, and I've seen quite a few of them.

She reminds me a lot of my Boxer mix, Morgan. Morgan's mother was a full blooded Boxer who got away from her owners when she was in heat. Came back pregnant and the owners didn't know what the father was. My vet and I think he was probably a Chow mix since Morgan's tongue was about 1/2 blue. She had a Boxer's face and barrel chest, and she grew up to be a big 100 lb. girl, even though she was very small when I got her. And she had short fur, but it got very thick once she was grown. Her tail had been docked before I got her so I don't know if it would have curled or not.
