Week by week photos of a Muscovy duckling...weeks 5, 6 and now week 7 included

Hi,

Thatnks for the input.
They are lovely ducks in those pics.

I took her back to the farm where I got her to compare her to other ducklings from her batch.

Here's what I noticed:

1) The ankles on some of the other ducks were huge...like small trex's. a good 5mm+ thinker at the bases.
2) The large ankle ducks stood with a wide stance...legs almost going outwards instead of stright down
3) The larger ducks were almost completely feathered...but not a sniff of any wing weathers, let alone flight feathers...not even small spikes where they start. nothing.
4) It's amazing how little time it takes to tame a duck...those ducklings thought I wanted them for dinner.

So my little ducky has much thinner ankles, is smaller, has feathers coming through on her wings and she isn't feathered yet and she stands with a very narrow stance where her feet overlap.

I'll post week 7 in a few days time.

cheers,

Woka

That is great you had an opportunity to compare. Hopefully, it'll turn out to be a duck, i have found they have an almost deceptive phase where it's hard to be sure and then an extra week it all becomes clear. Either way you will for sure know soon enough.

Hi,

Post No 3 now includes Week 7 + 2 days photos...wow the difference 1 week makes is amazing.
She's gone from duckling to duck.

cheers,

She sure has changed isn't amazing. Still looks girly to me looking at her legs, they still look slender. But the next 3 weeks will tell the difference.

Yes they do...and more so when this time last week I compared her to her siblings.
I think it's the flight feathers that clinched it for me this week as I think she'll have full wing feathers before her back has feathered out.
Plus..now she's lost the fuzz off her head it certainly looks feminine.

She definately looks like aoxa's grey and white duck on page 1 of this thread.

Just added a "flock" foto to post 3 as a size reference against the rest of my critters.

What should I be looking out for in the next three to four weeks?

The general size...weight...?
I am assuming that at around 10-12 weeks she will start to get a redder face...regardless of gender.
How can I tell if she "honks" like a female...other threads say that's what they do when they get picked up...but this duck is as tame as they come and loves nothing more than being picked up.

I'll weigh her later today, when she's out of the pond and dried, and I'll post it here.

cheers,

Woka

The next 3 weeks she will become a full fledged duck, no more baby fuzz and yes you'll start to notice the little red around her bill, but I really think just the transformation from what your seeing now will amaze you. She is going to be a very pretty duck. She will thrill and you'll start to notice in the drakes a whisping sound, the girls are hight pitched boys sound like their voice is changing. my youngest drake almost 24 weeks talks very low, my youngest duck who is now almost 16 weeks kinda squeaks when she needs to make a sound.

So your new pics are of a 7wk old? I still think drake not enough wing feathering for a 7wk old ducklet... or am i just confused at the aging
