Thank you! My final guess then is that Eclipse is a cockerel, Nutmeg is a pullet, and Pebbles is a pullet! Planning to keep Eclipse, unless he starts being really mean. I hope that’s not the case!
Does anyone know when I can tell if Eclipse is going to be a “nice” cockerel, or a “mean” one?
Hmm I'm not sure exactly how to answer that but I can share my experience with my silkie males.
I find a lot of the time when they really start getting their hormones they can go through a bit of an obnoxious stage. This tends to start anywhere from 4-8 months in my experience with 5-6 being the most common. Once this stage starts they'll often test you to see what they can get away with. Sometimes it is just minor dominance behavior like tidbitting, dancing/lowering a wing towards you, etc, but others they can get more aggressive and actually try to flog you. It would probably be a good idea to look up methods to try to dissuade an aggressive cockerel and find one you are comfortable trying in case he gets a bit too ornery.
Sometimes they never grow out of this phase but often they will, and sometimes they never go through this phase at all and are just nice boys. I find most of my boys who are still fairly aggressive by a year old don't really seem to grow out of it and I would consider them the "mean" ones.
