Week old chick throwing her head back when she drinks

it’s probably just fine and will sort itself out. i have a bunch of chicks and check on them once a day. they could be doing this same thing. as long as you have a clean environment, fresh water, feed and appropriate heat...instinct will take care of the rest...it’s out of your control ;) turn off the baby monitor
some chicks will die and it’s not because of your love and effort. i just lost one this week

Don’t have a picture of her right now, but Stella is 10 weeks now. Yeah, she’s still doing the head thing but it’s really not affecting her in any way and I even have her and the other integrated in with my 1yr. old hens. Honestly, they just kind of stare at her when she does it but then go right back to drinking without any issue. They don’t try pecking her or anything, so that’s good. Maybe she still has the chance to grow out of it? She’s still young, so who knows.

I did leg band all my faverolles, so I know who to keep out of the little breeding program I was planning and she will be kept out of the breeding coop down at the barn. Even if she does grow out of it, I don’t want that to be passed on. Not to mention she still doesn’t have a beard.

She’s shy.

Meryl Cheep is the one with the red band in the first picture.
