I have a week old rhode island red chick that we noticed has a enlarged crop yesterday as well as favoring her right leg over her left. When I pick her up and massage the crop, I can feel that there is dense but pliable food/grit in there. She's been on medicated feed since day 3 and grit since about day 5. Took food away much to all the chick's dismay last night and the crop was significantly smaller this morning. Had to give food back this am and about a half hour after eating, her crop looked enlarged again. She is vacating poop that looks normal so I am thinking that food is getting through. the crop doesn't seem to be filled with air or water so I don't think its sour but I don't have any experience with this.

Could her crop be impacted due to the grit? She doesn't look injured or deformed and she's the biggest chick in the group so I doubt another chick hurt her. So I am wondering if she is leaning to her right side and limping because her crop is full or she is uncomfortable? Has anyone else experienced these two things together? I plan on continuing to massage as often as possible since she doesn't mind it but is there anything else I can do? I've heard both sides of adding acv to water, providing yogurt and scrambled eggs so I really don't know what to do.

I don't want to stress her out by separating her from her buddies but is it harmful to allow her to eat as much as she wants even with the full crop? She does eat and drink on her own, but she isn't as active as the others due to her limp and she struggles to get around.

Several of our other chicks have had pasty butt since we got them but she has not. We also lost one for an unknown reason. It just stopped eating and drinking with no other symptoms and died after about two days despite lots of attempts to hand feed and water. Needless to say, my first time being a chicken momma hasn't gone too smoothly.

Thoughts and advice are appreciated since I am new at this. Thanks everyone!
