Week Old Chick with Eye Injury

Do you have Poultry Nutri-Drench? I'd give her 2-3 drops orally twice a day.
Provide some fresh water in addition to the electrolytes.

Possibly the balance issue is she's having trouble seeing out of that eye and the stumbling will resolve as the swelling goes down.

Didn't even consider the eye causing the balance problems.

I got her to eat a little mash with just plain water and starter. She's making happy chick peeps, though.

I'll give her the Nutridrench, too. That stuff is great.

Myrtle is doing slightly better today. I got her to eat a little mash when I gave her the meds today. She can walk forward now, but she still stumbles backward when she tries to stand completely upright.

I'm thinking the antibiotics will start really making a difference tomorrow. The vet has her receiving them both orally and topically on her eye. The abcess is still draining, which is good.

I'm going to get her fixed up, darnit!

Myrtle is a fighter! She's doing great just a couple if days into treatment! She still stumbles a bit when she tips her head back to drink. But she's running around, eating and drinking on her own. The swelling is down, but her damaged eye is still closed.

I'm very hopeful. I won't be bringing her to work with me tomorrow. She's eating and drinking well on her own.

My students saw her today and thought she was a different chick because she's so much improved.

Myrtle had BOTH eyes open today..... until I had to put in the terramycin. She's staying home today instead of coming to work with me. I'm a lil nervous.

I'm hoping to get her a friend or two after her eye is healed. Maybe week after next. She'll be 3+ weeks old, but she's tiny enough that she might be the same size as much younger chicks. I CANNOT integrate her by herself. That would be a disaster.

Myrtle is almost 100% now. She'll be on meds for another week.

She's FILTHY. She's got dried up mash and egg yolk and blood and muck all over her. Once she's done with her meds, would it be ok for me to bathe her or at least clean her up a bit? Her feathers are clumped and crunchy all down her front side.
