Week Old Chick with Eye Injury

That is an adorable little chicken! 🄰 I hope the vet is able to help you assess for a reasonable prognosis. (((Hugs)))
I found a GREAT vet about an hour from here, but the entire clinic is made up of avian specialists! Not just one or two doctors, but ALL of them. It's expensive, but worth it for cases like this.

Vet appt today. Fingers crossed!

She's adorable! How did it go?
Not good. The vet recommended euthanasia. I agreed at first, but I discussed it with my husband, and he was insistent that we should give her a shot at a decent life until she starts to go downhill.

I actually have another thread that ended up being about the same situation. If you're interested, you can read how that whole situation went down. It's pretty messy.

Update!

Myrtle is doing amazingly well! She's gotten much bigger and is feathering out well - finally! And she's remarkably adventurous!

What's weird is that I know he still has her previously injured eye, but it seems to have sunk into her eye socket. Her lid is always closed over what appears to be an empty socket. But I know without a doubt that the eye was never lost.

It doesn't bother her (or me) at all. But what happened to it? Did it get absorbed somehow? Did the abscess create a "pocket" behind the socket that the eye just kind of disappeared into? I tried to look up info about it, but was unsuccessful. Any ideas?

I'm glad she's doing well!

How is the other one doing? (Forgot his name:oops:)

Now that's a good question about the eye, does make you wonder. If you happen to go back to the vet, maybe they can shed some light on what happens to an eye like that.
Twiggy is holding her own. She sits a lot, but she always has a full crop and manages to dust bathe. Her hock joint is very large, and her leg is twisted to the point that her foot is almost upside down. But she's not in pain as far as I can tell. I can manipulate the hock, and the only time she expresses discomfort is when I try to push on the tendon. So I stopped pushing the tendon. I figure her leg is not going to suddenly correct itself at this point, so all I will do is just try to keep it from becoming too stiff.

Here's Myrtle today! She's 5 1/2 weeks old and doing great! She's super affectionate.

And here's Twiggy. She's 4 1/2 weeks old. She's also doing well. I'm working on making a little shoe for her as she keeps trying to walk on her foot, but her twisted leg makes that very hard.
