week old chick with lice - what do I do?

I am treating a week old chick for spraddle leg in the house - and noticed a louse walking on him. What do I do? There are 5 more chicks out in the hen house with the grown-ups. Can I dust little chicks with DE?

Lice and chickens go hand in hand. Some breeds are easier to control while other fluffier breeds need baths to control lice.

You can dust a chick with DE but, what I would do is, clean the coop then dust it EVERYWHERE with DE. Make sure you get the nesting boxes and crevices. Add new shavings and your chicks.

You could also add DE to their favorite dusting spot and let them do the work for you. Chicks love to dust and sunbathe just like momma. Make sure they have a good place in their run or otherwise and treat it.

Msbear gave excellent advice. Just follow that and they should be ok. I would dust even the hens because they probably have them too!
