Hello, Are the eggs shown above from the same parent lines? How dark have the eggs been? I have never raised marans before, at what age do they start laying, and are they great layers, one a day? How old are the parents fo the eggs you are selling....I might be interested.

Thank you and sorry for the many questions.

Hi FarmersFresh

The eggs above are ALL from Wheatens from the Davis line. The eggs above are also how dark the eggs have been LATELY. Like any other bird, they can start laying anywhere from 5 mos. to a year. They are great egg layers, but not consistent. They are very gorgeous DOCILE birds that decide when they will lay. Anything effects the laying -- like our thunderstorms here, lately.

French Black Copper MARANS are the darkest egg layers out of all chickens, though. So, it's a price you pay. The parents of THESE Wheaten Marans eggs are about 1 1/2 yrs old.

Here is a picture of what they laid at the beginning of their lay cycle. This is the shade you go off of, as it means they have the dark egg gene.

My birds were bred for the darkest egg, and not APA standards that will be coming into effect. However, most meet or exceed the standards. Every once in a while we get a clean legged baby instead of feathered. But I have not seen many Wheaten eggs that compare to how dark these are.

Thanks for the questions!
