weevils in my chicken food, will it affect her eggs

Hi i bought a bag of chicken food gave it to her when i was putting the bag in the bin i saw a bunch of black weevils crawl out, i when into the cage and she was eating the feed i sprayed the feed with house hold insect repellent which killed the weevils then i sprayed down the feed to try get rid of the bug killer. did i do the right thing do you recon i could off just killed my girl and do u recon i will get sick if i eat her eggs? help please!

DO NOT let your hen eat that feed. You have poisoned it with insect spray. the feed was old when you bought it, and IMO not worth the money you paid for it. I'd take it back to the feed store, and be sure to tell them you sprayed it with insecticide. I do hope she didn't eat any of the feed that you sprayed with insecticide. If it doesn't kill her it will make her very sick.

no she at the feed then i took it out of the cage layed it out and tryed to fix it, just now i scraped it up and throw it in the bin.

The weevils are not a problem, unless you have sprayed them too! Chickens eat bugs. They turn bugs into eggs. If you just bought this bag of feed, I'd take it back to the store and have them give you your money back. The problem is that those bugs are a sign that the feed is old and has not been stored properly. Moldy or buggy feed needs to be returned to the store for a refund IMO, because feed stores need to be accountable for supplying feed that is fresh and of decent quality. Old feed has very little nutrition in it. If there is any possibility that there is any insecticide residue in your feed bin, you must thoroughly wash it with soap and water. Are you sure the weevils came out of the new bag of feed, and weren't in your bin?

na she didnt eat any insect repellent stuff i threw it all away after u guys told me to, the pet shop gave me new stuff i made shore it was only layer pellets only im to paranoid of grain now. she 3 years old i couldn't imagine anything happening to her now. thanks for you help

Any and all feed that was sprayed needs to be tossed, and all implements washed thoroughly so no residue is left.

Insect spray is a neuro-toxin. It acts quickly on the central nervous system, paralyzing and then killing the chicken.

My chicken drank from a puddle under a planter where I had sprayed for cut worms the day before. When I watered, the water leeched down through the dirt I'd sprayed and then out the bottom. I didn't even think it would end up poisoning her.

It's awful having to learn the hard way how your stupidity can cause your hen to die, and having to watch her die was the worst punishment imaginable.

There are many different types of chemicals that could be called "insect spray" - without knowing what the OP actually sprayed, statements like this are nothing more than fear mongering. There are plenty of insecticides that aren't going to have any affects on birds, and plenty that are really nasty.

So, hspray, what did you actually use?
