I fed my chickens this morning . Everyone seemed fine. I let them out when I got back home around 2 and they were fine. One WLH was in the nest and jumped down and went out the pop door into the covered run. I didnt think anything about it but about an hour ago, I go out to clean my horse's stall and put in shavings, go around behind the barn to the pile, and there she is in the covered run in the corner, dead. Was eating and pecking around this morning, now shes dead. I checked to see if she might of been eggbound and felt nothing. What could of happened? No predator got ahold of her, not in there, and she seemed just fine earlier. Any ideas?

i just had the same thing happen this weekend. my first chicken death. only 9 months old.
she was in the coop acting totally normal, when i went back to the coop a few hours later - dead!
just laying there on the floor, dead as doornail. no wounds, no blood, nothing out of the oridinary, just dropped dead.
chickens can have heart attacks and strokes, just like everybody else, so that's what i'm assuming happened.
sorry for your loss.

Thanks. Yeah, that was just so wierd. My neighbor had that happen to him also with a chicken just keeling over. He opened the door to the coop, the hen came out, dropped dead right in front of him. She was young too. Just weird.

I too had the same thing happen just recently my little hen would have been 1 this month but at the end of Feb she was fine one evening when i went to lock everyone up and the next morning she was stumbling around, she lived 2 days. I think I would have liked it better if i had just found her dead, it's so frustrating to know what to do. Sometimes we just can't explain it. so sorry for ya'lls losses.
