Weighing hens

My chicks are very friendly - but not fond on being handled. What's the best way to weigh a nervous hen?

Pluck her off the roost at night. They don't see well in the dark. Weigh yourself holding the hen. Put the hen back on the roost. Weigh yourself. Subtract one from the other. The difference is what the hen weighs.

does she come for treats? do you have kitchen scales? if both yes, put scales on level ground, and tempt the bird over with treats that are held next to scales, so that she has to get on the scales to reach the treat. Method used at Chester Zoo to weigh a lot of their animals, and works for me
