Hand raised a drake that imprinted pretty well on me. Now hes older and mating etc and exhibiting some behavior im not a fan of.

He will run across the yard when I come out of the house and if im standing still he will circle my feet....just doing laps and laps. Rarely biting my pants. Mostly only pecks when I put them away and get closer to the girls duck house.

The more annoying issue is he will run and walk in front of me. Almost like hes trying to herd me. I will literally step on him if i don't kick / nudge him away. Even then he rebounds right back. It's very annoying.

I've read either he thinks im a mate OR hes playing alpha. I've tried pinning him for 1-2 minutes so he cant get up. Chest to the ground and head as well. This seems to work for the moment but later in the day or the next day hes back at it. After a week or 2... no permanent change.

Any suggestions?

But the pecking behavior can be bad. You don't want your drake being alpha right? Biggest problem i have is its very aggressive. Not the pecking but I can't even walk lol...If i kneel down he chills out but even after quite some time of attention he will chase me again and step in front of my feet. Even runs between my feet to get in front of them. He even paces the fence between him and the car when I back out for work lol.

It generally doesn't last very long if I spend a lot of time in the yard like doing yardwork but it can be very annoying leaving the house for work... when coworkers ask why i have muddy marks all over my pant legs lol

I won't cull the bastard but I gotta figure something out...

I dont think its that "he really likes me". I hatched and raised him indoors and for most of his life before the hormones started kicking in he didnt peel off of his girls to chase me down like this.

Sorry if it seemed like I was being accusatory, I have just owned chickens/ducks who like to follow me around. I was thinking that he originally thought of you as a motherly figure, but it doesnt seem like so. Have you tried pinning him everyday for a week or two? That's how I tamed my aggressive rooster

Drakes are a handful. Lefty does things hiz way. He's the boss.
Here he is posing with his Fertilizer Award.

Drakes can be ornery. I think you're reading too much into his behavior - he's just being a drake, and sometimes that means they're too bossy. Gently discourage the behavior that's annoying you and wait for breeding season to end would be my advice.
